Google just announced the dark mode for the google search, and if you too want to implement the dark theme settings to your google search, then in this post, I am going to tell you how you can do this.

First of all, you have to understand that there is a difference between a dark mode for Google Search and Google Chrome.

Dark Mode for Google chrome will implement a dark theme to Chrome’s home screen, its settings etc, but it will not enable dark mode for the google search result page.

Dark Mode For Google Search

There are different settings to implement the dark theme for the Google Search result page (SERP), which I am going to tell you in this post.

Note: Right now, Google just released the dark theme in Google Search for PC browsers. Users will not be able to implement these changes for their Android or IOS phones.

How To Enable Or Disable Dark Mode For Google Search On PC Browser?

For Chrome

  • Open Chrome
  • Go to the Google search bar, and search anything
  • Tap on the setting icon from the right top corner of SERP (search engine result page)
  • Tap appearance
  • Choose dark/light

For Firefox

  • Open Firefox
  • Go to the Google search bar, and search anything
  • Tap on the setting icon from the right top corner of SERP (search engine result page)
  • Tap dark theme to enable/disable dark mode

For Safari

As per my check on 28 August 2021, I am unable to spot dark mode settings for google search in safari.

What if You Are Unable Spot Dark Mode For Google Search On PC Browser?

Google announced these changes a few days ago, so it’s possible that it will take a little more time to get these settings for all the users.

But please make sure you are using the latest version of Chrome, and no update is pending. To check updates for your browser, follow the below-given steps.

For Chrome

  • Tap on the “three-dot icon” from the top right corner
  • Tap “settings”
  • From the menu, go to the bottom and tap “About Chrome”
  • If it’s showing any pending update, please proceed to finish the update

For Firefox

  • Tap on “three parallel icons” from the top right corner
  • Tap settings
  • Look for “Firefox Updates”, or simply search from the search bar
  • Tap on the “check for updates.”
  • If it’s showing any pending update, please proceed to finish the update

For All Other Browsers

You can check for any pending updates for your browser from your browser’s settings page.

How To Enable Or Disable Dark Mode For Google Search On Android & IOS?

Google has released the dark theme for Chrome on Android & IOS, but it will not help you to set the dark theme appearance on the Google search.

As of now 28 August 2021, Google just released the dark theme support for Google search for PC browsers but not for smartphones.

But you can use desktop site settings in your mobile browser to get dark theme in Google Search for mobile (Android, IOS).

Use Desktop Site Settings For Android & IOS

  • Open Chrome on your phone
  • Tap on the three-dot icon from the top right corner
  • Tap desktop site
  • Now search anything from the Google search
  • Tap on the Dark Mode icon from the top right corner of the screen, just beside the settings icon
