Lately, many HBO max users have reported the error code 420 while playing a movie or while checking the media library. Usually, this error can occur on your screen when you try to play a video or TV show.

Usually, this problem indicates that HBO max is unable to load a movie or a title, which can happen if HBO max servers are down due to any outage or maintenance work. But sometimes unstable internet connection or low-speed internet can also cause such issues.

In this article, we are going to share the possible solutions to fix HBO Max Error Code 420.

How To Fix HBO Max Error Code 420?

Fix 1: Check The HBO Max Servers

If you are trying to play a Video on HBO Max and it is not getting loaded or even the title is not loading then it can happen due to the servers of HBO Max. 

If the servers of the streaming app are down due to some outage or some maintenance work then you won’t be able to watch anything until the servers are fixed.

To confirm the server status you visit here, if there is any reported outage or scheduled work is being done then HBO max server then you have to wait till their server gets back to normal.

Fix 2: Check Your Internet Connection

HBO max needs a minimum of 5 MBPS internet connection speed with a stable network connection to perform without any delays or error codes. 

So check your connection speed and stability by visiting www.fast.com.

If you found any problem with the internet then follow the steps given below.

Restart the Router

  • Unplug the Router power cables from the wall outlet and wait for a minimum of 1 minute.
  • After that plug in the power cable back into the wall outlet. 
  • Check if it has fixed the issue or not.
  • If the issue still persists then contact your Internet service provider for help.

For Mobile

  • Turn off the data connection.
  • Put it on Airplane mode for 1 minute.
  • Now disable the Flight mode and turn on the data connection.
  • Restart the HBO Max app to check if it has fixed the issue or not.

Fix 3: Re-Login To Your HBO Max Account.

This can be listed as the easiest workaround to fix this error code as it helps you reset the data.

You just need to sign out of your HBO Max account for a minimum of 5 to 10 minutes.

For Desktop Browser

  • Launch your HBO Max app on your system.
  • Now click on Profile.
  • Then scroll down and choose Settings.
  • Now click on the Sign Out button to stop your current session.
  • Then wait for around 5 to 10 minutes, and re-login again.

For Browser

  • Open the Chrome browser on your device.
  • Now type and launch the HBO Max on your browser.
  • Now click the Sign Out button to stop your session.
  • Then wait for around 5 to 10 minutes, and re-login again.

Fix 4: Clear Cache and Cookies

For Chrome

  • Open Google Chrome on your device.
  • Now click on the 3 vertical dots given at the top right corner.
  • Go to Settings > Privacy and Security option.
  • Now click on the Clear Browsing History option given in the middle of the screen.

For Android Phone

  • Open the smartphone Settings app.
  • Scroll down and select the option Applications and Permissions.
  • Now scroll down to select the HBO Max app.
  • Click on the Storage option.
  • At last tap on Clear Cache to clear all the corrupt files in your HBO Max application.

Fix 5: Disable the Browser extension

You may face this error code if any of your installed browser extensions are not compatible with HBO MAX.

So turn off your browser’s extensions right before accessing HBO Max.

Fix 6: Update The HBO Max App

If you are using an outdated version of the HBO MAX app then there are chances that you may face this error code.

On Android

  • Open the Google play store app on your Mobile.
  • Now click on the Profile pic at the top of the screen.
  • Go to apps and select the HBO MAX app.
  • Click on the Update and let it install properly.
  • Once the update completes, open the app and check if the error code has gone or not.

For Windows

  • Go to the desktop search bar and type Microsoft store.
  • Click on the 3 dots icon at the top to open the main menu.
  • Now click on the Downloads and Updates option.
  • Select the Get Updates option and then click on the HBO MAX Download icon to update it.

Fix 7: Reinstalling HBO Max Application:

If you have recently updated your app and still you are unable to play a video on HBO MAX then you should reinstall the app.

  • To uninstall the HBO Max app, press and Hold the app icon on your smartphone.
  • Click on the Uninstall option or drag it to the trash icon.
  • Then restart the device and Launch the Google Play store.
  • Type the HBO Max app there and install it back into your device.
  • The newly installed app will have all the updated software and security upgrades to protect your app from any error code.

Fix 8: Contact HBO Support
