Kindle offers Audible Narration with many of their ebooks so the users can seamlessly switch between reading & listening as per their preference, but many users complained in online communities that they were unable to locate their audio companion in the Kindle App after their purchase.

In this post, I am going to address this issue and going to explain how you can locate your audio companion in your Kindle app if it’s not showing.

How To Fix If You can’t Locate your purchased audio companion in the Kindle App?

In order to get your audio companion back in kindle, you have to update your Kindle titles from the “Content and Devices page” by accessing the Amazon desktop site.

Whenever an author or publisher makes any updates to the Kindle book, you may not be able to sync up paired audio edition with the kindle book.

Because of the update by the author or publisher, the book loses its Whispersync for Voice functionality.

So in order to fix this, just visit the “Your Content and Devices page” from the Amazon desktop website, and update your title.

How To Update Your Kindle Book Manually?

  • Open Amazon.com from your desktop/laptop browser
  • Login to your account if needed
  • Tap on your profile name visit your account details page
  • Tap Your Content and Devices.
  • Tap on the “content” tab
  • From the filter options, please make sure you selected Books
  • Tap the Action button next to the book you are having syncing issues with.
  • Tap Update this title

Note: Once your kindle book is updated, open your Kindle App, tap on the main menu, and tap sync to realign your paired titles. Once the sync is complete, you can see the headphones icon on the top right corner of the book, which means now you can listen to the Audible Audio Companion with your book.

How To Update Your Kindle Book Automatically?

Above, we mentioned the steps to manually update your Kindle book from the Amazon website after any changes made by the author or publishers. But you can also set for the Automatic update, so whenever your book needs any update, it will operate automatically.

  • Open Amazon.com from your desktop/laptop browser
  • Login to your account if needed
  • Tap on your profile name visit your account details page
  • Tap Your Content and Devices
  • Tap the Preferences tab
  • Scroll down and tap “Automatic Book Update
  • Turn on the “Automatic Book Update” to automatically updates your books in future

How To Check For Matching Audiobook Companions For e-Books?

Simply go to the Amazon matchmaker page, and this page will tell you the available audio companion for your purchased Kindle books. As well as from the same page tap on the Shop Now to find the list of all the Kindle Books with Audible Narration.

Can I add Audible narration For My Already bought Kindle books?

Yes, it’s possible to add Audible narration for the kindle books you already purchased. Just go to Matchmaker page, and it will tell you if any of your books have an audio companion.

If the matchmaker page is showing the avialable audio companion for your purchased book, then you can buy and add narration with a single click from the same page.

What should you do if your Kindle book and Audible narration aren’t syncing?

There could be two reasons, whether you have switched devices, or your book needs to be updated. If you have switched your device, then sync your device from the menu or reference.

And if it doesn’t work, then please visit Amazon.com from your desktop/laptop browser, visit “content & devices”, choose “book” under content, and check if there is any update for your book.

If there is any update pending for your book, then please update your book, open the kindle app, tap the main menu, and tap sync to fix the issue. If even after you are getting the error then please contact the Audible Support.

Buying the Audio companion with the kindle book gives you the opportunity to switch back and forth between reading and listening, as well as you can read and listen together, with real-time text highlighting.

Here is how to read and listen to Kindle Books at the same time

  • First, make sure you purchased the Audio companion with your book
  • Then open your kindle book
  • Download the Audible narration
  • Tap Play to start listing

Note: If you borrowed any titles from the Audible Plus catalog, then you can’t use this function.

How To Add (Play) Audible Narration To Your Device?

Note: if you borrowed any titles, then you can sync titles between multiple devices, but you can’t enjoy the immersion reading, or use the Audible player in Kindle apps. Immersion reading and access to the audible player in the kindle app are only available for the purchased titles. Also, to enjoy immersion reading, you have to buy the audio version with your kindle book.

For iPhone/Ipad, Android, iPad/ipad Mini

  • Open Kindle App
  • Login to your account if needed
  • Tap the Kindle Book you want to read & listen (if in case you don’t see your kindle book, then click on the menu icon and tap sync)
  • Tap on the download icon just next to the “​​Audible Narration” from the bottom left corner
  • Once the download is done, tap on the “Audible Narration” to start listing your book.
  • In order to get back to reading mode, tap on the book icon

For Fire tablets 3rd, 4th, 5th Gen

  • Go to the Fire tablet home screen
  • Click on the Book tab
  • Click on the Kindle Book you want to listen & read
  • Tap on the download icon just next to the “​​Audible Narration” from the bottom left corner
  • Once the download is done, tap on the “Audible Narration” to start listing your book
  • In order to switch between reading and listening, tap on the “overflow menu icon” from the top right corner, and tap “Immersion Reading”.

For Fire Tablet 2nd Gen

  • Go to the Fire tablet home screen
  • Click on the Book tab
  • Click on the Kindle Book you want to listen & read
  • Tap on the play/pause button from the bottom of the book to switch between listen and reading.

For Kindle e-Reader

  • Go to your Kindle library
  • Tap on the Main Menu
  • Tap on the Archived Items
  • Tap on the title to begin the download, and wait till it finishes
  • To switch between reading & listening, just tap on the headphone icon from the bottom of the screen

Note: Not just kindle apps, you can also listen to your purchased audio companions on the Audible apps, Fire tablets, and Amazon Echo.
