I have noticed many users complaining in a different online community that they can see many random and weird files appearing in their smartphone’s file manager. These files are reappearing after some time, even after deleting them.

Any of the recently downloaded third-party apps can cause this issue, especially any phone cleaning app.

In an online community, users were mentioning that this random file issue was because of the “clean master” and “PhotoGrid” app.

So if you have any of these apps, then please clear the app data, uninstall the app, and then delete the files which appeared on your phone.

1. Check Recently Downloaded Apps

The problem may be because of any third-party app, so go check your recently downloaded apps. I noticed In the online forums that people were complaining that they were facing this issue because of the “clean master” or “PhotoGrid” app.

If you have these apps on your phone, then please clear the app’s cache & data, uninstall the app, and delete the files which are appearing.

If you don’t have any of these two apps but still getting the issue, then check for the similar apps which you recently installed because these apps are the main culprit for the issue.

2. Check Your Apple Profile, If There Is Any New Profile Added

It’s possible that your iPhone is compromised, so please check your phone for another profile.

  • Go to setting
  • Visit general
  • Profiles or Profiles & Device Management

If there is any profile added, then please disabled the unknown profile to see if it fixes the issue.

3. Keep Your Phone Software Updated

Check update for your phone because this can be any software issue. So please go to your phone About and check for the software update. If there is any software update pending then, please consider updating it.

4. Remove malicious device admin apps from your phone.

For Android 10 & later

  • Go to settings
  • Visit Biometric and security
  • Tap Other security settings
  • Tap device admin apps
  • Disable the access for any suspicions app

For Android 9 & Previous

  • Go to settings
  • Go to security
  • Look for “Device admin apps”, “Device Administrators”, “Phone Administrators”, or anything similar
  • Disable the access for any suspicions app

5. Uninstall the malicious apps from your Android phone

  • Go to the settings
  • Go to apps or all apps
  • Check the list of all the apps
  • If you find any suspicious apps, then please consider uninstalling them

6. Scan Your Phone For Virus Or Any Similar Threat

Nowadays, all of the recent phones come with a scanner for the virus or any similar threat, so run the scan and wait for the result. If the result showed you any warning or anything, then please follow the instructions.

If your phone has not any virus scanners installed, then you can download any from the app store.

FAQS | Frequently Asked Questions

Why do some folders on Android phones have a dot at the beginning of their name, e.g. .androidsystem?

Not just Android, but all Linux and UNIX-based systems use the dot(.) in front of file/folder name. They do this so they can indicate that particular file/folder is a hidden file/folder.

You will be unable to see these files under your file manager unless you enable the show hidden files” option.

There is no harm of these files, so you should not be worried.

  • Go to the file manager
  • Tap the three-dot icon from the top right corner
  • Tap settings
  • Enable “Show Hidden System Files”
