Hidden mentions on the Instagram story could be a curious thing to come across. You might want to watch the mention but it is restricted due to some reason and hence it will be regarded as a hidden story.

Even when you are tagged on the story, you will not be able to see that tag or particular mention as it does not have public access.

This could be because the account that tagged you is not public. There could be other reasons as well. We need to take a deep dive into the reasons that could be behind this issue to check if there is something that can be done on your end to see the story mentioned.

We will discuss in detail in this article how to see hidden mentions on Instagram Story. Let’s discuss the bypasses for the issue and how other users and tech enthusiasts have found the workarounds for the issue.

How to see the hidden Instagram story mentions?

There are different ways to go by finding Instagram story mentions. We will discuss each one of them in detail so that you can pick the best option for you from the list.

Some of these will be taken from the user’s experiences that they have found out after a lot of trial and error.

1. The generic way to find all the mentions

If you want to see all the posts and stories that have mentioned you in one place, you can use this approach that we will mention here.

Here is how to do this.

  • Launch your Instagram Profile
  • Click on the three dots that you will see on the top of your profile page
  • Click on the option Mentions
  • A page appears where you can see all the posts, comments, and stories that have mentioned you.

2. The search bar to the rescue

Did you know that you can search for your own username on the search bar to find content that mentions your profile using your own profile?

Well, this is possible and this is also what our idea is based on. Here is how you can use the search bar for your mentions.

Click on the search bar and add an @ sign before your username on the search bar. This will display a series of results with all the mentions for your profile.

3. Check your notifications

When someone mentions you in a story on Instagram, you get a notification instantly unless there is an issue with the notifications on your Instagram.

You can find the notifications tab on the button tab of the Instagram profile. This is the heart icon that you see near the reels button.

Click on the notifications tab and any recent story mentions will be communicated to you in the notification.

4. Check if you follow the person that has mentioned you

It does not make a difference if you get a notification about someone mentioning you in the story, you will not be able to view the story unless you follow the person.

To see the story, you will need to send a request to the private account that has mentioned you.

If you are not on the Close Friends list of the person who has mentioned you even when you follow them, you will not be able to view the story.

To conclude

If you cannot view the story mentioned on Instagram, there are a few reasons that could be behind it.

We have mentioned the solutions that you can use for the same but in the majority of cases, the issue seems to be that the story was uploaded on a private account that you do not follow.

We hope that this was helpful. Keep following for more technical updates.
