How to fix Xbox Error Code E106?


Fix 1: Restart your Xbox console

First and foremost, try restarting your Xbox console. If the startup error is caused by some temporary glitch or an abrupt system shutdown. Then, simply restarting your console should pretty much solve the issue.

To restart your console, simply click and select the Restart this Xbox option from the Something went wrong screen.


Fix 2: Reset your Xbox console

If restarting your console didn’t solve the issue for you. Then, next you can try resetting your Xbox console. 

To do so, you will need to click on the Troubleshoot option on the Something went wrong screen and click on the Reset this Xbox option. 

You should be prompted with a dialog page asking whether you would want to keep your installed games and apps or not. Simply, click and select on the Keep games and apps option and the reset should take place. 

Once your system has been resetted. Power on your console and see if the error still persists.


Fix 3: Update your Xbox firmware

Many users have reported that an outdated firmware can also result in such an error to show up. And if that is the case for you. Then, updating your Xbox system should be a good idea. 

Hence, to update your Xbox, you can follow the steps as mentioned below:

  • Firstly, download the following Xbox OSU1 file on your PC by clicking on the following link.
  • Once downloaded, extract the file onto your system and copy the $SystemUpdate file onto an empty USB drive.
  • Unplug the USB flash drive from your PC and then, plug it into your Xbox console.  
  • Go to the Troubleshoot menu by clicking on the Troubleshoot option on the Something went wrong screen as seen above. 
  • Then on the next page, click on the Offline system update option and let the update take place. 
  • Once updated, restart your console and see if doing so helped solve the issue.

Fix 4: Factory Reset your Xbox 

As a last resort, if none of the steps mentioned above work for you. Then, you can try factory resetting your Xbox console. 

To factory reset your Xbox console, you can follow the same steps as have been mentioned in Reset your Xbox console mentioned above. 

However, here when you are prompted with the option to whether you would like to keep your game and app files, or remove everything. You will need to select the Remove everything option and continue the process. 

It is important to note here, that selecting the remove everything option will erase and delete all your installed games as well as any changes which you had made to your Xbox consoles settings. 

Once the Xbox has been resetted to its factory settings, you should have the Xbox console to its initial settings and in this way you should be able to solve any bugs or issues which may have come up in the due course of time.
