How To Fix BG3 error code 516?
Fix 1: change the location of your game directory
One of the main reason behind the error is not having enough disk space in your system, hence, to fix the following Baldur’s Gate Error Code 516, the best solution would be to change the location of your game directory from your current one to a different one, some place where there is more space or the disk is not corrupted or so.
You can do this by following the steps as have been mentioned in the screenshot above or as shown here below:
- If you have not installed the game manually to some other location. Then, by default it should be installed in the following directory: C:\full\path\to\original\Appdata\Local\Larian Studios.
- To change this following directory to your desired one, you will need to launch your Command Prompt app as an administrator.
- Simply, search up for the CMD app on your search bar and right-click on the app. Select the run as administrator option from the drop down menu list to launch the Command Prompt app.
- Then, on the cmd terminal type in the following command: mklink /d “C:\full\path\to\original\Appdata\Local\Larian Studios” “W:\cool\path\here\Larian Studios” and hit on the Enter button.
- This way you will be able to change your game directory and should be able to solve the issue as well.
Fix 2: Delete saves
If you have a lot of game save files, taking up more space unnecessarily than required. Then, due to less space available, such an error can show up as well.
Hence, if you feel that you can do without some saves here and there. You can try deleting such saved files and clearing up space required by you to be able to save more recent progress and fix the following error in the process.
Fix 3: Troubleshoot The Hard Disk
However, if you feel that you have enough space. And, even after having changed your directory, there is not much luck with the particular error. Then, there may be a slight chance that your hard drive may be at fault here.

Hence, if you too believe that your SSD or HDD might be giving you trouble and as a result prompting the following error to occur. Then, in such a case, it would be a good idea to try and fix such a drive or replace it if there is no way to fix it.
