As per the users, the error code 28 with Steam occurs while accepting a trade, and the error says “There was an error accepting this trade offer. Please try again later. (28)”

There is no official information shared by Steam on this error so we can’t say anything for certain but this error may mean that the items become unavailable after you open the trade offer window, or the item is already traded away while you were trying to make the offer. So check if the item you want to trade is still in its respective inventories. If yes then it may mean that you are temporarily stuck because of some unknown issues and you need to keep trying until you succeed.

How To Fix Steam Trade Error Code 28?

Fix 1: Undo Confirm Trade, And Then Redo Confirm Trade

This workaround was shared by one user on Reddit where he mentioned that he was having the same issue and fixes it by following the below-given steps.

  • Undo Confirm Trade.
  • Then Redo Confirm Trade.
  • Then tap on Finish Trade button.
  • If the error still persists, try the above steps multiple times and it should fix the issue.

Fix 2: Have You Restarted Steam?

If the error continues then try restarting Steam to check if the error still persists after restarting the Steam or not. Many times some temporary glitches can also lead to such errors, and restarting Steam might help, so you should definitely give it a try.

Fix 3: Check Trade Settings

The next thing you need to do is to check the trade settings under Steam. Simply go to the Steam settings and check for the options related to Trades. Check all these settings, maybe they help resolve the error.

Fix 4: Use Browser Over The Steam Client

If you are out of your luck and the error is still intact on the screen then instead of trading the items on the Steam client, it will be best to use Steam from Browser. Check if choosing the browser over the Steam client to trade fixes the issues or not.

Fix 5: Check Steam Server Status

If the error persists then check if Steam is going through any issues with their system. Go to downdetector and check if downdetector is showing downtime/outage with the Steam system. If yes then wait for some time and try again.

Meanwhile, you can also consider getting in touch with Steam support to have more clarity over this error. if something is really going on the backend then they will update you about the situation. Otherwise, the support team will look into the error to provide further help.
